Before I attempt to form any sort of opinion on what's happening in Lebanon right now, can anyone inform me to what extent Hezbollah represent the consensus of Lebanese political opinion ? And why would any Lebanese person co-operate with Syria, when Syria assassinated their PM about a year or so ago ? This is not sarcasm-I'm seriously bemused.

interesting, why would you have a rally in an aeroport?

Well, the Elvis fanclub do it once a year in Prestwick airport, the only place Elvis ever set foot in the UK.........

Seriously though. I don't think it justifies the extent of the Israeli onslaught, but what is going on when a party with seats in a democratic assembly can endanger the majority (seemingly) of the rest of the country by attacking a neighbouring state, seemingly with impunity ? It's like Plaid Cymru launching missiles at Belgium, Belgium pulping London, and Plaid Cymru retaining their seats in Westminster. Ok, a tad scatalogical, but what would a sensible first world analogy be ?

As for your fellow-passengers in the airport, I say the same thing to Irish, Yugoslavs, Arabs, Jews, whoever- if it moves you that much then go back and live there. Live with the consequences of your drumbeating. I'm sure they would last about a fortnight.

Interesting; I thought Hassidic Jews were generally against Israel. There's always a good contingent of them on Palestine Solidarity Campaign marches in London. Rallies, being held on a Saturday, usually see them walk down to the centre of London from Stamford Hill - public transport not being allowed. But, I suppose, the Hassidic community could just be divided on the issue.

Anyway, although both parties in this war are Wrong to bomb people - there is NOT an equivalence here. Israel is a massively armed agressive state enjoying the absolute support of the world's only military super-power and a state that has been strangling both the Palestinians and its other neigbours for years.

Surely, for us looking on, it's easy to see just who the agressor is here - and who the onus is on to start trying to create peace.

Wouldn't disagree with that at all. It's just tragic for the majority of Lebanese that they get caught in the crossfire that occurs when you provoke a state like that. Especially when they went through the same thing before.

Yes, quite.
All very sad.

well the guys i saw in the airport were definately not pro plo...and they were all off to israel. personally i had problemns with that, as at least half of them were under 10 years old. it is fine for adults to go where they want, when they want but i cant understand parents who would want to take their child into what is becoming a war zone. but anyway, i am back to the normalacy of moscow now.....
